COVID-19 and Our New Normal

Bump in the RoadChange can be hard; and with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, life has suddenly changed for many of us. We are currently in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. We are trying to adjust to our new normal; and we do not know what normal will be once the pandemic has abated. So, I am going to take a brief break from my genealogy posts to talk about it.

A look at history shows that humans have survived for thousands of years, because of our ability to learn, grow, adapt and cooperate in changing and sometimes very challenging situations.  Such times bring out the best and the worst in humanity.

Looking back at history, however, gives me the confidence that while our world will be challenged and changed, humanity is resilient. I’ve no doubt that humanity will survive the COVID-19 Pandemic. We will, however, be changed by it.

We are confronted with many challenges.  However, change isn't just challenging. It presents opportunities as well; and many people are rising to the challenge. Some are donating money, time and/or talents. Musicians are giving concerts from their homes. More people are learning how to communicate virtually and meeting across a number of audio-visual platforms. Entrepreneurs are creating services to meet needs and factories are retooling to meet the demands generated by the pandemic.  These are just a small fraction of ways people are positively dealing with these changes.

People live in different places, and respond in different ways on a diverse planet. Therefore, opportunities and challenges will vary from place to place.  So tell me, what is going on in your corner of the world?  What changes must you, your family, friends, coworkers and neighbors adapt to?  What are your current challenges?  What are your new opportunities?  How are you responding?  What can you contribute to the health and well-being of your community and economy?  What do you need to get through this time with all its knowns, unknowns and changing scenarios?
